When managing a Windows VPS server, it may be necessary to open specific ports in the firewall to allow communication between the server and the external network. In this article, we will show how to open a port in the firewall of the Windows VPS in a few steps.
Step 1: Open Windows Firewall with Advanced Security
In the Start menu of your VPS, search for "Firewall" and click the "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security" option to open the firewall control panel.
Step 2: Access Inbound Rules
In the left panel of the "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security" window, click "Inbound Rules" to configure the inbound rules.
Step 3: Create a New Rule
In the right-side panel, click "New Rule" to open the rule creation wizard.
Step 4: Select the "Port" Option
In the wizard, choose the "Port" option and click "Next".
Step 5: Specify the Protocol and Port Number
Select "TCP" or "UDP", depending on the protocol you want to open. Enter the port number (or port range) in the "Specific local ports" field and click "Next".
Step 6: Allow the Connection
Choose the "Allow the connection" option and click "Next".
Step 7: Apply the Rule to Network Profiles
On the next screen, check the profiles where the rule should apply (Domain, Private, Public) and click "Next".
Step 8: Name and Finish the Rule
Give the rule a name and, if necessary, a description. Then click "Finish" to create the rule.
By following these simple steps, you can easily open a port in the firewall of the Windows VPS. Keep in mind that opening ports in the firewall can increase your server's exposure to security risks, so only open the ports that are strictly necessary and always keep your server updated and protected.
